Isaiah 32:9-12 says: Rise up, ye women that are at ease; hear my voice, ye careless daughters; give ear unto my speech. Many days and years shall ye be troubled, ye careless women: for the vintage shall fail, the gathering shall not come. Tremble, ye women that are at ease; be troubled, ye careless ones: strip you, and make you bare, and gird sackcloth upon your loins. They shall lament for the teats, for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine.
And a lot of women have indeed been living on Easy Street by way of the welfare system, but winter is now here with the government shutdown still in full effect. Forty million people haven’t received any SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) or EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) benefits in the month of November, and twenty-five states were set to cut off SNAP completely as the Trump administration won’t pull from any emergency sources. People who rely on these programs are essentially on their own as the vintage is failing, and the government isn’t going to help these families in need. These women and their children shall lament for the government assistance, and we’re in Day 44 of the government shutdown.
More than 130 federal programs have stopped being funded and will affect over 59,000 children under the age of six in forty-one states including Puerto Rico, and the Health and Human Services program that funds education, health, and nutrition services for more than 800,000 children will be affected. The Republicans and Democrats are at an impasse, and the government is fundamentally broke and won’t be fixed anytime soon. Meanwhile, military, air traffic controllers, and civilian employees haven’t received their paychecks this month. The real problem will commence when Section 8 housing is cut off and millions of people will be homeless in the coming months, and all hell will break loose as a result of it.
2 Esdras 15:14-19 says: Woe to the world and them that dwell therein! For the sword and their destruction draweth nigh, and one people shall stand up and fight against another, and swords in their hands. For there shall be sedition among men, and invading one another; they shall not regard their kings nor princes, and the course of their actions shall stand in their power. A man shall desire to go into a city, and shall not be able. For because of their pride the cities shall be troubled, the houses shall be destroyed, and men shall be afraid. A man shall have no pity upon his neighbour, but shall destroy their houses with the sword, and spoil their goods, because of the lack of bread, and for great tribulation.
The government shutdown not only affects the millions of people who receive welfare assistance, it also affects the airline industry and more specifically, the air traffic controllers. People will desire to travel by air but won’t be able to due to airline traffic coming to a screeching halt pursuant to the passage above. Moreover, a hungry person is an angry person, and people will begin to protest, riot, and rob one another due to being without food and/or shelter. The inner-city streets will be unsafe, and people’s houses will be pillaged by armed men. Jacob’s Trouble will be in full bloom by then because there won’t be a police presence to combat the coming crime wave, and 911 will be disabled. Martial law will soon be declared, troops will be deployed, and cities will be completely closed off by the Trump Administration once mayhem takes over in a city near you.
